NCDOT I-40 Slope Plating New Hanover-Pender

JSmith Civil is actively working on the C204557 mass stabilization project in a busy corridor of I-40 in Castle Hayne. The project includes repairing catastrophic erosion of the roadway substructure due to Hurricane Florence. JSmith Civil will install 4000 LF of new drainage, regrade the slopes and place approximately 70,000 tons of rip rap. One-third of the rip rap placement is adjacent to the historic Cape Fear River basin that is protected by the Army Corps of Engineers. After the rock is placed, JSmith Civil will install new curb, asphalt and all new guardrail. The project entails working near active travel lanes of I-40, in some places our work is only 7 feet from travel lanes. Despite limited access, wet conditions, and limited working hours due to rush hour traffic JSmith Civil is projected to finish the project ahead of schedule.
